Claire, one of my favorite shrubs is pearl bush, exochorda x macrantha 'The
Bride'. the flower buds do indeed look like pearls on a string. I first saw
this plant about 8 years ago at the national arboretum and it was in full bloom
and a total knockout. It was about 8 feet tall and probably 10-12 feet wide
and was in the conifer garden. I did a lot of searching to find one for myself
and planted one the following year. I doubt it will reach the size of the one
I saw in my lifetime.

In hunting one down I learned that it is a relatively old plant to gardens
and sometimes used when historic gardens are being replanted.

I don't know how it would do in Z4.
