Re: shrubs, getting on, what's new?

> Hal, no recommendations for dwarf conifers for z5b...sorry

I've been growing Taxus baccata 'Repandens' for two winters (entering
its third growing season) without any problems here in zone 5b USDA
(East Central Illinois) and in the Chicago suburbs (zone 5a USDA).

I just planted Tsuga canadensis 'Jeddeloh' this spring (only a foot
tall or so) and have been eyeing other dwarf conifers to spice up my
perennial beds.

Hal, what do you consider to be dwarf?

I really enjoy interspersing woodies with my perennials. I have
Pachysandra procumbens and terminalis, Mitchella repens, Paxistima canbyi,
Mahonia repens, Euonymus (many different tyes), Zenobia pulverulenta,
Ceanothus americanus, Clethra alnifolia 'Hummingbird', Itea virginica
'Little Henry', Fothergilla gardenii, Ilex glabra 'Shamrock, various
Arctostaphylos uva-ursi cultivars, and various other small shrubs
interspersed with the more 'ephemeral' plantings throughout my yard.

I wouldn't be without them. :)

Chris
