I have been growing roses for only a few years and have only planted
disease resistant varieties. This is the first time i (think) i have
black spot problems.
I have a Charles Abanel (canadian explorer series) which has always been
very healty. In addition to the classic black spot symptoms it seems that
the leaf edges are browning, too. This occurs more on younger leaves
than older ones.
I know one should not use chemicals on rugosa roses and their hybrids due
to their dislike of chemicals and subsequent leaf drop. So, what should I
do for this black spot? It was suggested that i use 1 tbl spoon of baking
soda to a gallon of water. Will this defoliate the rose or is it okay?
I appreciate you responses. TIA
