Chris--
Thanks for the prompt reply. You've had p. mildew and black spot on "The
Fairy"?
I've had mine for about five years and have had only minor black spot and no
mildew.
Where do you live? Could it possibly be an even better environment for fungi
than St. Louis? Maybe you had nearby plants which infected it or something.
>Fru Dagmar Hastrup is an excellent cultivar (notice the Fru, not Frau --

Very interesting. Proof that Michael Dirr, even though he wrote "the bible",
can be wrong. Unless the plant was incorrectly named in the first place. You
might want to write him and tell him what you just told me. Since so many
people in the trade use his "Manual of Woody Landscape Plants", a mistake in
it will get widespread use. You can reach him at the Department of
Horticulture, University of Georgia, Athens, GA. He seems to have a sense of
humor, so I am don't think he will mind being corrected.
Thanks for the detailed information on the habits of 'Fra/Frau Dagmar
Hastrup'. It does sound wonderful. You didn't say whether you have had
disease problems with it. Have you? Do you spray it? (Remember, I won't. I
will feed, water and prune it, but otherwise it is on its own in my garden.)
Anybody else have any ideas?
