I have 20 2-yr. tree paeonies (unamed cultivars) that I wasn't really
expecting and I'm somewhat at a loss about how to take care of them.
They are now in 2-gallon pots and I was hoping to plant the ones that
aren't white in a temporary bed until I can see the exact color of the
bloom. Is it OK move them from the pots into the ground very early this
fall? Do tree paeonies resent transplanting the way regular paeonies
do? Also, I was told to plant with the graft about 1" above the ground.
Is this correct?
How much space should I allow between plants in their temporary
location? In my midwestern Zone 5/6 would they prefer full sun or
afternoon shade? The cultural info I have seem to offer confilicting
advice on this. Are tree paeonies fussy about soil and/or water
requirements. They will be well-mulched and on drip irrigation.
I'm fairly new to gardening twenty of something this large is pretty
intimidating.
TIA
