I did a quick web search and there, among hundreds of links to information
about smoking pot and the death of Pol Pot, I found one web site about the
pot-in-pot system.

Some of the pots designed for this technique have special drainage systems --
such as the raised center in the inside pots shown at the above web site.
Some nurseries prepare a gravel bed under the potting site, sometimes with
drainage pipes.
I know people who have tried this at home successfully without elaborate
drainage systems. The drainage solution really depends upon the site
conditions and the plant species. --Janis
