Kitty, I have tried cutting from Buxus at different times of growth. They
have all rooted. You can be fussy and put them in pots with a 2 liter
bottle over them or just stick them in the ground. Well, you would need to
loosen the soil up a little but they do grow. Now on the variegated
cuttings from the variegated box I did make 3 cuttings and they were put
into a good potting mix and some protection from the winter weather. I
guess knowing that there would not be another chance made me be extra
careful. If you do not have Dirr's Manuel of Woody Landscape Plants, you
might like to check it out. He tells when and how all the plants he tried
rooted or not. I do not use the acid treatment but have several rooting
hormones to use on special hard to root plants.
Happy growing,
Nancy R
. It seems to have taken the move well, so I might try cuttings
