Re: Query set fruit?

Howdy,

we had a newly planted 'David' crabapple that was small and had a heavy
fruit set 2 years ago. The weight of the fruit on the main leader broke it,
but I was able to splint it up and it healed nicely. So, I would say remove
fruit on the main stems and leader, but don't worry about the other
branches.

Subject: Query set fruit?

My newly planted Malus "John Downie" is flowering. My question is: should I
remove the blossom to prevent fruiting in its first year? Is this the best
treatment in the long run? Advice gratefully received as I just heard this
rumour and wonder if it is true. TIA. Avril.
