variegated dogwood

We bought a plant called only variegated dogwood at a plant sale. The leaves
are green centered with wide creamy white edges. I grew it in a pot for the
first two years, then planted it out last late fall. Although not growing
rapidly, this spring it produced one 'flower' that did not resemble a typical
dogwood at all, more like a viburnum. The individual buds on this did not
open. Now I'm wondering what I have. Anyone have a clue?
