Hi all,
My mother purchased a Calycanthus floridus last summer. She wanted 'Edith Wilder', but we couldn't find it around here. She had to settle for straight C. floridus. The nursery she bought it from said that if this year the flowers smelled liked vinegar that they would exchange it. So far it is smelling like vinegar. She called the nursery, which is under new management, and they said they don't remember making that promise to her. They said to wait till more flowers are open to see if they still smell like vinegar.
My question is - can this start out smelling like vinegar but progress to the "normal" scent. We know nothing about this plant so don't know what to expect.
The nursery suggested she wait till the end of this week till more flowers are open. If hers still smells like vinegar, then she could come to the nursery and check out the Calycanthus they have in stock. I still don't know if they will stick by their word and replace the plant.
Thanks,
Karen
