Hi, Don: an idea: Although the little work horse H. Stella D'Oro has been
over-used it can be combined with less-often used perennials to add interest. I
found Liriope muscari variegata worked beautifully with it and does not
spread like L. spicata and is drought-resistant. I did not have good luck
with the named variegated Liriope muscari (Silver or Sun something). Also, if
you decide to ditch the idea of the Stella D'Oro, a yellow shrub I've found
very pretty, useful and satisfying is Hypericum and it's also quite drought
resistant when established. Its arching habit is nice in the winter,
as well.

Yes, thanks Joanie. Itâs just that I would like to plant some other color then just the yellow, as this area is already surrounded by Hemerocallis Stella DâOro, which although I feel is grossly overused, I understand why, from a profession landscapers point if view. This is a job that I have taken on as a favor to a former associate, but I would like to use some shrubs/perennials a bit different from the plants that everyone else seems to use. |
