RE: Climbing Tree


Ok Bettye,  you want a climbing tree with strong, low branches that grows
fast.  I'd suggest a tree that grows moderately fast because most fast
growing trees generally have relatively weak wood.

My vote would go to Sawtooth Oak, _Quercus acutissima._  Good sized tree, 40
feet plus in height, moderately fast growth, and wonderful large, low
horizontal type branches.  Also, it has no major insect or disease problems
and is relatively tolerant of a wide range of soils, although since it's
native to Asia it tends to prefer a slightly acidic soil.
