I have one of these that I put in two years ago. The first year it was
OK, but last year-its second year in the ground-it really looked nice. I
is supposed to tolerate some shade. I have it growing on an embankment in
well amended sub soil. The embankment is the result of landscaping after
constuction of an addition to our house and is steep enough that I didn't
want to mow it. So I've planted shrubs and in each hole I put lots of
well rotted sheep manure and some peat. At any rate, the Itea bloomed
in June to July with white bottle brush flowers that were somewhat
fragrant. Then in the fall it turned a gorgeous maroon color that
deepened as the fall went on. It is one shrub that I would consider
planting somewhere else if I have another space for it.
