Bay Tree

Has anyone heard of or know where to get something called a "Bay Tree".
Supposedly they are all over england.  It is described as an evergreen
topiary, two foot ball on a stick.  The botanic name is supposedly
Laurus nobilis, though I could not find it anywhere.
