Hi everyone,
I've got a that I can't ID. Have put some leaf, twig and bud scans
on the web:
http://mtalt.hort.net/unknown/unknown-tree.html
I never noticed this guy until this fall, when I'd cleared some woods
around it - the color was super..like a Sassafras, only it is not
one..that I do know. Found I have a couple of these and a baby. I
got the leaves and twigs in the scan from the youngster as the
others are branched too high to reach. None are very old - at least
the largest is only about 5 inches in trunk diameter and maybe 20
feet tall.
One thing that I could see from the ground is that the leaves at the
tips of branches appeared to be in a fan shape containing from 3 to 5
leaves. This does not show in the scans, either because the baby is
too young to do this or the leaves had already fallen from that
branch. But, I mention it in case it helps.
Have spent hours looking at assorted tree pix on the web for species
I'm not familiar with and cannot find a match.
All ideas appreciated! TIA
