Re: Advice planting Franklinia?

My second try to grow Franklinia was a success...on sandy, acid and damp soil. It even bloomed for me...then I sprayed some bad weeds about 15 feet from my tree. Of course it died...not sure about the bad weeds. Good luck with yours. Enkanianthus is showing out with its golden leaves right now. Love that plant.

Well, Chris, from someone not too far from you and perhaps with similar soil conditions, and who has killed this plant (twice, I think), I believe at least one of the important things is that it is supposed to like sandy, very acid soils. So if youÂre going to do the raised bed thing, start with the elemental sulfur and other acidifiers this fall (assuming youÂre planting in
the spring). IÂm still trying to grow Enkanianthus and Gordonlinia.
TheyÂre still in pots and will probably stay that way, at least while I try
to get them through the coming winter.
It will be good if you can hear from some SUCCESSFUL growers of this neat
plant.
