I'll second the comments about Itea virginica (Virginia Sweetspire) and
Clethra alnifolia being great shrubs for part shade.
To that list, I would add Fothergilla major & Fothergilla gardenii. They have
better color in full sun, but do fine in part shade. They need acid soil and
look great with azaleas.
All three of these, Itea, Clethra & Fothergilla look great, to my eye, in all
four seasons. Don't know why they aren't more used in the landscape. They
should be!
