Hi Lisa,

   As I understand it, the true 'Gro-Low' is a female cultivar, but there
   are a lot of imposters out there that are monoecious (having both
   male and female flowers).

   You can usually tell by looking at the flowers -- the males appears
   as catkins (and the spent catkins persist for quite some time), and
   the females appear as yellow clusters.  

   Your best bet is probably to plant Gro-Low with the straight species
   or another cultivar to try and ensure fruit production, but that's
   just an educated guess. 

   Anyone out there have any better advice?  :)
