It's hard to decide. Here are some...
For the color of the leaves:
Acer mono 'Hoshiadore'
For the color of the winter bark:
Acer runfinerve 'Winter Gold'
Acer pensylvanicum 'Erythrocladum'
For the shape:
Fagus sylvatica 'Tortulosa' (and Contorta and Horizontalis)
Robinia psuedoacacia 'Tortulosa'
For the color of the flowers:
Magnolia 'Woodsman'
Because it has the tiniest fruits imaginable:
Ilex serrata 'Koshobai'
Because people don't expect to see them here:
Mahonia heamatocarpa
Hebe pinguifolia 'Pagei'
Caragana jubata
many dwarf willows
Because it's new and rare
Fagus sylvatica 'Mercedes' (dwarf fernleaf beech)
Because it's one of a kind:
Wild propagated dwarf Kalmia l. with dark wavy leaves
