Re: Fagus sylvatica 'Mercedes' (dwarf fernleaf beech)

I have gotten a lot a questions about Coenosium Gardens so I decided to
post this to the list.

Coenosium Gardens
4412 354th Street East
Eatonville, WA 98328
360-832-8655

The catalog is published in November, $3, refundable with purchase. As
stated in the catalog :

"Plants are grafted to fill specific orders placed by January 1
of each year. After that date, the grafting of plants will depend
upon availability of understock and greenhouse space. Later
orders can often be filled. Orders for plants on their own roots
will be filled according to available inventory, since only rooted plants
that are at least one year old will be shipped."

"All prices stated in the catalog are for new grafts and
one-year-old cutting, unless otherwise noted. Older plants are
sometimes available and are priced at an additional $4.00 for each
	year of growth."

The Jan. 1 order date is to allow time for the graft to take. Typically
grafting
is done in early winter, and the grafts are ready in the June timeframe.
This is when
to expect your order to be shipped. Fresh grafts are therefore, grafts
which
were done in the same year. They can be expected to be small, and to take
some special care.

Coenosium offers many rare selections in the 8-10 dollar range. The newer
selections,
and those that are very rare and/or hard to propagate, run more. The
'Mercedes'
was listed in the last catalog at $30, "very few available". They do not
accept
credit cards.

I order from a number of sources. I have always been pleased with what I
got
from this nursery.

The usual disclaimer... I am in no way affiliated with Coenosium Gardens.
