Junipers do not grow "candles". Candles are grown by White Pines and
Scotch Pines - thin-needled evergreens. Junipers grow needles all year
long, and can be pruned throughout the growing season to maintain their
shape. Again, if you allow them to develop two leaders, you can encourage
splitting if exposed to wet heavy snow.
Of course, an evergreen with two main stems can be protected by tying the
two stems together to avoid splitting. Be sure to use a very heavy plastic
plant tie material made specifically for this purpose.
