It's your plant. What kind of effect do you want to create in that area?
Tall and skinny? Don't cut it. Dense and shorter? Cut away.
If you do cut, however, I'd wait until it starts sending up growth next
spring--candling, I think it's called. Cut the leader about halfway back and
train one side shoot into leader position. Some conifers, like spruces, don't
like this treatment and you have to be careful about how you cut them.
