Re: hints for moving a large shrub (cross posted)

Cheryl, I have had good success (never lost one) in root pruning in the fall
and moving early spring. Using burlap and some good help, get as large a
root ball as you can possibly handle. We moved a sizable Rusty Blackhaw
Viburnum this past spring and 14 roses. I really thought the shrub/tree was
to big to move but it was crowding an Arborvitae. It still looks good after
our unbearable hot summer and 8" short of moisture.
I don't like the idea of moving in the fall and having no idea what is
happening all winter. In the growing season you have a chance to react if it
does not do well.
