Re: looking for a suggestion

My favorite 4 season tree is the Washington Hawthorn. Medium size,
moderate to fast growth rate. Wildlife friendly (birds, esp. robins
depend on the fruit during the early spring snows). Also good nesting
place, since it does have thorns. But thorns won't be a problem for you
since it will be limbed up next to your patio. I have 3 along a walk
way, from garage to back door, and I enjoy them immensely.
Spring: fragrant white flowers.
Summer shiny green leaves (and a great bird refuge)
Fall: Showy orange fruit , and good fall color
Winter: the clumps of berries catch the snow, making it look like a
"snowball" tree!

Who could ask for more!

Need a suggestion for a tree to be planted in Zone 5, Illinois.

Looking for something with the following requirements and thoughts.

It will be planted in full sun, hopeing to provide shade for my deck,
which will be maybe 10 ft at the most from it. Unfortunately, it can
not be planted at the correct spot for shade since that is my
neighbors property. It will be in windy spot, mostly coming from the
  south, southwest direction.

Planning on planting it along a fence line, needs to have a high
canopy since I will have to walk under it.

Of course, also looking for 4 season interest....

  Anyone got a thought/suggestion?

  Donna
