Titan Watch 4/23/2001:
Amorphophallus titanum (#83) = 19" tall. Leaf or bloom? Don't know yet, but
I should any day now.
A. gigas (#84) = 137" open and stinking. There are periodic waves of (dead
animal) odor. Visitor keep missing the flower because it is up near the
roof.
A. paeoniifolius (#2741 & #2318) both opened this morning... little odor
yet. Pretty dramatic when you see it potted on a bench and the flower is
right in front of your face. One of the inflorescence is fairly small for
this species.
A. henryi (#2736) finished blooming, fading out.
A. muellerii (#2743) open but fading.
Anyone coming to the Aroid Society meeting this evening (Monday, April 23),
will have a chance to visit the Conservatory and see the giant A. gigas from
Sumatra in bloom.
