Well folks, it's getting ready!
The inflorescence is no taller for the second day in a row. The entire spathe
has loosened from the spadix and has started curling back at the outer edges.
The spadix itself is developing deep furrowed depressions.
Staff member Ann Schmidt posed for photos on a platform next to the flower this
afternoon and could intermittently smell faint hints of the stench to come. I
would not be surprised to see the much anticipated opening sometime tomorrow,
though I don't see the wrinkling deep in the ribs of the closed spathe that I
noted last year.
The decision has been made to keep the display open until 7 P.M. tomorrow and
as long as it is in bloom, but it would be a good idea to call before making a
long trip just to be sure.
