GWYN PROGRAM COORDINATOR OPENING

The position of GWYN Program Coordinator is open.  The application period
has been extended to April 9th.

Grow With Your Neighbors (GWYN) is a community gardening outreach program of
the Five Rivers MetroParks.  GWYN provides technical assistance to community
groups in the City of Dayton with the development of community gardening and
greening projects in their neighborhoods which enhance and build strong
communities and individuals.

Under the supervision of the GWYN Program Manager – the Program Coordinator
provides direct assistance to community groups with new community garden
construction; assists existing community garden groups and garden
maintenance; assists groups with organizational development and gardener
recruitment. (This includes planning, roto-tilling, plowing, light
construction, working with gardeners to make repairs to fencing, water,
adding soil amendments, etc.) In addition, the Program Coordinator develops
educational materials; develops, implements educational and community
strengthening programs and activities such as Harvest Festival Picnic,
Summer Garden Tour and Spring Gardening Conference; is responsible for
recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers for the overall GWYN
program; and maintaining all tools and equipment assigned to the GWYN
program.

Candidates must have Bachelors degree in Horticulture, Community
Development, Agricultural Sciences or related area, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.  Minimum of three years of
experience in related field.  Prior experience operating large pieces of
equipment, working with volunteer groups, vegetable gardening concepts, and
familiarity with garden construction and maintenance techniques required.
Ohio Divers License, which is insurable by Five Rivers MetroParks' insurance
carrier.  Candidates must successfully pass a background investigation and
drug-screening test prior to employment.

Salary Range:  $12.41; benefits package including health and life insurance,
retirement, and tuition reimbursement.   Applications and resumes must be
received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2002.
