This is a very common problem -- I believe it's listed in the archives. Even a google or Jeeves search will probably give you helpful lists.I need advice on how to prevent cats from digging and defecating in my planting beds.
You want to keep your feral cats happy because happy feral cats keep mice, voles, rabbits, etc out of your garden. Whether you use vinegar sprays (repellant), aluminum foil, flattened chicken wire (to keep them from digging/defecating because they don't have the natural surface they prefer) or whatever else you find, make sure it simply discourages them rather than actually hurting them.
