Re: speaker wanted-- thanks for the responses

Hello,
I would like to recommend a speaker for your garden/health/nutrition program. Her name is Patrice Powers-Barker, and she works for Ohio State University Extension in Lucas County (Toledo). Patrice holds a degree in social justice, and that is where her heart lies. She formerly held the title "Program Assistant, Urban Gardens" for OSUE, but when the funding was cut for that program she became a nutrition educator. She started and coordinated an excellent children's neighborhood garden in urban Toledo as a volunteer for several years. She is also a community gardener herself. She presently coordinates nutrition/gardening programs at inner-city schools and for adults as well. She worked in collaboration with the Toledo Health Department on a garden and health project. Patrice began her gardening training in community supported agriculture--and is a big proponent of that.

In addition, she is an excellent speaker and educator and has spoken at the ACGA national conference (2001) (community garden leadership), International Master Gardener's Conference (community gardening), Ohio's State Master gardener conference, and many others. She always gets the audience personally involved, and gets excellent reviews for her speaking engagements. Pkpowers@ag.osu.edu

Thanks to all who responded to my post on needing a speaker on gardening,
health and nutrition. If there are more, please send them my way. At this
point I am taking everything into consideration and will get back to you.

It is really great to have you all as a resource (and friend).

Tom
