Job Opening: AmeriCorps Youth Educator
Wasatch Community Gardens, Salt Lake City, Utah

Eleven-month position (mid January-mid December), 40 hours/week, flexible
schedule, some evenings and Saturdays during growing season

Eleven month AmeriCorps Position: monthly living stipend $963.64;
educational award at end of term $4,725; health insurance; paid holidays.

Experience leading groups of children and adults
Knowledge of sustainable gardening methods
Ability to adapt to a changing balance between paperwork in the office and
outdoor garden work as the seasons progress.
Proficiency with Microsoft products


Teach Experiential Education Classes
-Provide a safe, active, and engaging environment for students
-Work with a variety of agencies and students, ages 3  22 years with
diverse backgrounds
-Teach youth gardening classes under the guidance of the Wasatch Community
Gardens curriculum
-Collaborate with Youth Program Coordinator in developing curriculum
material and necessary teaching aids
-Collect and record class information to complete class rosters and
evaluations of the youth program

Assist with Coordinating Volunteer Projects
-Lead volunteer projects with adult and teen groups in the garden.
-Teach volunteers about sustainable gardening during the volunteer sessions.
-Work with AmeriCorps NCCC team in the gardens (March-June)

-Assist in creating garden planting and harvesting schedules
-Work individually in the garden to help meet common space management goals
(weeding, path laying, educational sign display, compost etc.)
-Maintain youth garden plots

-Assist with annual Plant Sale fundraiser, Tomato Sandwich Party, Volunteer
Banquet, and other events
