Dear community gardeners:
I just sent off a request for info to you'all and forgot to include the
[cg] in the subject line to identify my message as legitimate community garden
mail. So realizing that most of you would delete the mail that I sent as
junkmail or even as that containing objectionable content, I am recomposing the
message here:
If received my request for information twice, well, just delete one, but
still respond. I'm interested to know what some of you think about this
subject.
I am investigating the use of compost toilets for our local Compost
Specialist group, a group of Master Gardeners that create and demonstrate
compost for area community gardens, the public, and for ourselves. I
was wondering if any of you have compost toilets at your community gardens or
know of any such toilets being used in your area. Is the composted
humanure being used on vegetable plots, or how is it disposed of? What are
some of the issues regarding management of these
toilets?
I have accessed Jenkins' "Handbook of Humanure" online as well as a few
other websites regarding compost toilets for sale. However, I'd like to
know of first hand experience with composting human waste that some of you may
have.
Thanks.
