Lynn- there are some environmentally safe paint choices you can make to waterproof or decorate. Safecoat is one brand that makes an exterior-grade waterproofer and lots of other colors. You might want to check out coopamerica.org for local vendors. In NYC, Environmental Construction Oufitters is a distributor that stocks alternative safer buildign materials.
