American Community Gardening Association Members:
Are any of you aware of studies done to show the effectiveness of community
gardens in offsetting food costs, avoiding health care costs, enhancing
social engagement or other economic/social value? Andy Fisher of the
Community Food Security Coalition suggested I contact the American Community
Gardening Association as he did not have any information.
I was asked by the director of a Community Food Bank if such information is
available. He recently left private industry and is interested in getting
support from that community to further the development of gardens like the
food bank operates. He is looking for information on any studies that have
been completed to show the benefit of gardens.
USDA-Food and Nutrition Service did not have information on the subject
either.
If any of you have substantive information in support of community gardens,
I would appreciate it.
