I've just spent a week in rainforest areas on the Queensland - New South
Wales border (a fern paradise) and was impressed with the proliferation
of Platyceriums. One particularly large specimen I photographed I think
is a P. superbum but I'd appreciate the views of the experts on this
list. (Flora of Australia vol. 48 lists only P. superbum and P.
bifurcatum in this region).
I've uploaded two images of it at
http://www.dcnicholls.com/misc/platy.jpg (with two full sized Asplenium
australasicums below it and a couple of smaller platys in the background
if you can see them) and the main plant by itself at
http://www.dcnicholls.com/misc/platy2.jpg (Each image is about 60K, as
small as I can make them without loosing too much of the original image
detail).
I didn't estimate its size at the time but I'd guess at least a yard
across. It is growing in the Natural Arch National Park in the border
ranges.
Regards
DN (who is beginning to understand why Platyceriums evoke such enthusiasm).
