Re: Polypodium difforme, looks like Asplenium

This is marketed from tissue culture as Asplenium 'Austral Gem,' a hybrid of A. dimorphum x A. diforme.

Denise's photo is superior to any of the photos on commercial sites and shows a plant of 2-3 years old. I say that because the earliest fronds are pinnate then pinnate-pinnatifid and later ones more divided. The spores are said to be sterile.

I'm inclined to agree. Definitely Asplenium-like, but not exactly A. obtusatum, at least not like the ones I've seen in the wild.

an Asplenium!

Asplenium difforme used to be regarded as a
variety of Asplenium obtusatum but
is now considered closer to A.
appendiculatum and A. marinum. Your plant may
well be a variety or hybrid of
these ferns.

Hope this helps!
