Nephrolepis exalata (exaltata ?)

Hi,
I'm Peter, living in Vienna Austria (withour canguroos ;-))
We bought this fern (in the subject) some days ago.
It seems that it spreads a strange odor, especially at night..
Is this normal or does it mean that something is rotton?
The fern looks, ok.
