Good news indeed for both of you. I would leave the tops on your free bulbs, Jesse. I have good luck recycling potted bulbs if I can plant them with the stems & leaves. It does take an extra year or 2 for a good show and the ulips can be iffy. I remember your idea Jim. I don't suppose you know how to mend porcelain? Or know a source?

You may be disappointed next year.  The daffs probably won't
bloom again for a couple of years, but they will finally come

A garden club I used to belong to would collect leftover potted bulbs
from a florist after the spring season and plant them in the town
park.  It would usually take at least two years before they produced
any more blooms, and then only the daffs were reliable.  Tulips often
just disappeared.
