Re: climbing rose

Louis Philippe is one of the best of seen-more of a tall rose than a rambling climber. I concur with Zephrin Drouhin and Red Cascade as well. Roses Unlimited in Laurens, SC used to have a large variety, all grown on their own roots.

Others that have performed well for us are Playboy (not a climber) and of course Knockout. Lady Banks roses are gorgeous but they only bloom once a year here and to me look better planted out of the way across a split rail fence or something. They're blooming all over Beaufort right now along with the azaleas and wisteria and bridal wreath sprirea. Stunning! I love this place in the spring.

Hi Judy

I do like fragrant. What do you give up by getting fragrant roses
typically? Thank you for the offer. Let me see how this growing season
plays out and then if its ok with you I'll ask again later in the
summer.

Maybe look for a rambler rather than a true climbing rose. The canes are
shorter. I have Golden Showers on its own roots, so far not hard to keep to
a manageable size. If you want fragrant, Gertrude Jekyl is a gangly thorny
beauty that needs to be tied up to something, blooms all along the stems. If you want a start, I can send a stem later this summer. Mr Lincoln gets to be
about 8 feet for me, too.

Hi Donna

Glad to hear your weather is finally breaking. It's been a long one for
you folks.

I did think of Clematis in fact. I killed one that I had in a pot
several years back or BATOTT (Before A Touch of the Tropics) Lol!
Anyway, so you plant three together? I will give that some thought. Are
all climbing roses huge? I don't want to constantly fight the thing.

no suggestion on the rose. Every time I get a climber it tries to take
over the world...or at least more space than I allowed.

Have you thought of clematis? I plant three together, and early, mid and
late season, so it is blooming most of my season, which is allot shorter
than yours.

 Hey again

Ok, second rose question. I'm looking for a climbing rose (possibly) to
climb up a trellis along my house. I don't want a huge one as the
trellis is about 8' tall and 4' wide. Also looking for a rebloomer.
South wall of my house. Any suggestions? If you have a better suggestion
than a rose would love to hear it.

Thanks
