RE: trains in the garden/birds


Donna, cut out a piece of OLD carpet and put it under your feeder.  Nothing
will sprout.  Another option is the magazine trick under the feeder.  Again,
nothing grows on those slick pages.  I'd cover either with some landscape
fabric just to make it look better or perhaps some rock.  

As for what the birds carry away in their stomachs and plant, I can't help
you with that one!

You can always cook the seed in the oven, killing the embryo. Then it 
won't sprout, but that's a lot of work.
On the subject of bird feeders, did anyone read the article on that 
subject on the front page of the Wall Street Journal? The thrust being 
that some believe they are doing birds more harm than good.
