Love Estes. Seen any big horns? On Dec 25, 2009, at 11:12 AM, Jesse Bell wrote:
We are in the cabin at Estes Park, my husband and his mother are making a big pot of chili, and I am watching a deer and her half grown baby eat the apple that I cut up and threw out there for them. They are just beautiful. The wind is bitter and strong. It is really, really cold here. But also peaceful and lovely. On Fri, Dec 25, 2009 at 1:02 PM, Pam Evans <gardenqueen@gmail.com> wrote:Well, I just went to make my Christmas rounds and the starter is out, I recognize the sound it's making. Was going to take the car in next weekforsome maintenance stuff anyway, so I'll just call Harvey on Monday and tell him he'll have to come & get it. Oh well. Didn't feel like doing the meet & greet thing today anyway. Guess I'll head out back & see how many limbscame down in that wind last night. Y'all have a good one! We have just switched from the warm side of the weather front to the cold. Close to 2 inches of rain yesterday, and highs in the 20s and snow showers today. At least we escaped the blizzards which happened to the west of us. DH and I are celebrating a quiet Christmas - just the two of us for dinner (roast beef, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans with almonds, and butternutsquashwith cranberries, with cheesecake for dessert), plus his new partner, whoissingle with no family visiting. Went to church last evening, as I was assigned to do the readings, so I was home to receive a surprise call thismorning from my youngest, who is spending the holiday in Salzburg,Austria(raining there). I lived there for a year when I was 8, so significantmemories were evoked! Cathy, west central IL, z5b On Dec 24, 2009, at 6:42 PM, Zemuly Sanders wrote:I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas. I agree that this year doesn'tseem like Christmas at all. We have no ice -- just spitting rain and 50mphwind gusts. I spent part of today delivering presents and picking up cat necessities. I have an awful cold, not the flu or anything like that, justthe kind that makes you feel like crap. Tomorrow will be the 4th day ofitso I guess I'll be over the hump when I go to my daughter's house. Ihavehad the past two days off so the cats have had a great time staying inbedwith me. I am strictly hoping for a better 2010. zem zone 7 West TN ----- Original Message ----- From: <aplfgcnys@aol.com> To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Thursday, December 24, 2009 3:36 PM Subject: Re: [CHAT] Merry Christmas It's been a strange one for me, too, this year. I guess we are theultimate empty-nesters. I'm very happy that all my sons have grown up and settled into happy marriages and are doing their ownthing with their own families, but they are so far away, and so many of our other friends are no longer here for various reasons, that webegin to feel somewhat isolated. I have made my traditional candy for my club members and neighbors, but didn't send it to the kidsthis year. Too fattening, they say. I haven't done much shopping -mainly for the "Christmas Angel" gift program at the church where we draw the name and wish list for a less fortunate person who has been proposed by a social service agency. Ours was a single mother who wanted towels - we threw in some warm gloves anda gift certificate at a food store. For our sons and families we send gifts in their name through Heifer International - have done for severalyears now. That leaves me with much less bustle than usual. Wehave put up the tree, and the cats think it's wonderful, especially the bright red tree-skirt. Lottie, the black one, thinks she looks stunningon it - and she's right. Anyway, I hope all of this group are having the happiest season possible. To all, a very Merry Christmas! Only bought afewpresents, had most of this week off, and don't even have a Xmas tree up. Not exactly sure why this happened, but it did. It really doesn't seemlikethe holiday to me at all.... Even the weather, it's raining ice ballsfor the last 12 hours. So before I run off to prepare Xmas eve dinner, I want to wish you all avery Merry Christmas!
