Re: Gene's catalog

There are all kinds of hidden costs with UPS.
We seem to be finding them out as we go along. There are now instruction sheets or operating manual from the company.... just sales persons word and instructions.
Part misunderstanding... we were immediately set up for scheduled pickup by our UPS deliver person. That little misunderstanding cost us $16 a week. We did a trial run of 5 parcels... then nothing for the rest of the month until we ordered boxes. Those 4 weeks cost us $64. If you call the driver on his cell phone... not all will have one.... ours does... it cost you nothing for them to be picked up.
If you do not use their services a certain amount you will pay a higher rate. Just found that one out from the driver... not the sales people. If you are a small business watching your costs...it is our customers who ultimately pay shipping costs and we have to stay competitive to stay in business.
But, then, JoAn tells me that they, in all honesty, never said they were cheaper. Just better.
Postal Service does not have their own transportation and must rent or pay for outsourcing. Lots of security stuff involved in that one aspect... meaning it is easy for a parcel to go into limbo for weeks and show up like nothing ever happened... even with deliver confirmation. Also there is not penalty for them not making a deliver on time... just sorry about that... so they do not have as much at stake and the service shows it.
We are going with ups for several reasons.... one being software integration is possible on data bases.

Hum, must be cause you are in a rural area. We use UPS at work all the time.
I applied on line, print out my shipping labels via the internet/pc. Heck
they even provide the blank labels free of charge (ok, it is in the price of
the service).

I find them much easier to deal with than some of the other shippers.
