Re: Mechanical troubles!
hah! Wishful thinking. I don't think any paint would stick to a fridge!

Lets see, I have an Amana fridge that is now about 5 years old. It
works great, but I hate the color (beige). It was bought urgently after
our second-hand fridge died one day. Stupidly I ordered the color that
matched the kitchen counters (which I hate). So- I'm actually hoping
this fridge dies soon, so I can justify getting a new one that is not
such a hideous color. Live and learn- word of advice- order appliance
that you like- not that match the kitchen color you hate!

GE. It is a piece of crap! I can't believe it blew in 2-3 years. The

when it crapped out!
Yep, it has a motherboard. I was a little surprised too, but I
think that
all new fridges do these days, so it appears. It looks like the
inside of
my laptop.

Your FRIDGE has a motherboard??? Wow- that must be some fancy fridge-
just out of curiousity, what brand is it?

Needless to
say
we did not purchase the extended warranty. I took it apart
yesterday to
see
if I could figure out what was wrong and/or fix it, but I couldn't
find
the
problem. Got a repair guy in to look at it. Turns out the
motherboard
is
bad. Yep, the fridge has a motherboard. The repair guy wants
$300 to
fix
it, but I found the motherboard online for $120, so I'm going to
try to
fix
it myself. Hopefully I can fix it for $120, so I don't have to spend
$700
on a new one. Sheesh!

Replacing the breakers is one of the first things I did when I
got in
here.
The electrician looked at what was here and asked what garage
sale did
they
get these things from??

We need to replace our panel, too. It's only 100-amp and the main
breaker
hasn't been made for a number of years. Lowest estimate we've
had is
$1,400--so I don't know when we'll get to it.

It is not as costly as I was imagining to replace the box.
Although
our house is only 8 years old, we are adding some plugs and
found we
didn't have expansion capabilities.(read outside plugs for
trains and
Xmas stuff)
Of course if the existing wiring has to be replaced also, that is
another story...

Not that old. We moved in in 1994, so about 12 years. Even
when it
was built, we didn't have much confidence in the sub
contractor the
contractor used for hooking up the wiring in the house. We
unaffectionately called them Larry, Moe and Joe for some obvious
reasons. The geothermal heat pump would not work when they
finished
their "installation." Bill had to take the wiring diagram and
do the
hook up himself before it would pass inspection and Bill isn't an
electrician. (He's just darned good at about everything, kind
and
tender, too. Any wonder why I married him?)
It was a bit scary, but the danger is past for now. We just
need to
get a new panel installed before something else goes out
because of
it.
Blessings,
Bonnie (SW OH - zone 5)
