Probably. The guy who fetches palms from the other side of the state for us also makes "artifacts" of ficus saplings--way beyond the common place braiding of trunks. He makes some truly weird stuff--bird cages, shelves for potted plants, and other wonders--all of living ficus trees.

Yes we learned about "willow water" in one of my landscape hort classes.

I seem to recall, that in the days before rooting hormone powder,
people used "willow water" i.e. water in which willow branches had been
soaked, as a rooting stimulant.

Fran, you could probably find a puusywillow, Syringa vulgaris (or several other species) locally this spring. If not, I found several available at Mellinger's:

Yup. After a 5 year fight to get the front street footage cleared of
rock
debris and ruts and get it graded to actually drain to a catch basin
was
enough of a monumental fight. When I approached them about the yard
boundary problem, they told me to take it up with my neighbors for
not
clearing the trees away from the edges of the property. UGH! (Keep in
mind; these were the same folks that sank a catch basin 4" higher
than the
surrounding area. They can't even figure out that water drains down
hill
around here. They put the sewers too close to the surface of the
ground and
forgot how much soil they removed--before the installation--once it
was
installed to bring it to the proper height. Of course they deny it,
but
there are pictures....) They already know I'm a trouble maker.
I think I'll be better off just waiting until we can afford to do
something
with the area or find plants (like cattails) that will thrive in the
"river"
in the wet times and go dormant in the dry seasons. I still like the
idea
of a little bridge across the boundary, though, and a dry river bed.
There
is still so much more to check out!

That is true Kitty- but proving, getting someone to actually do something... around here, not worth the time and effort. Easier to just fix it yourself.

Bonnie, You need to get out there and scream at the County/Township. They"fix" the grade resulting in a detriment to your property. We had aside,
similar
situation at my office. We're on a deadend street; commercial oneresidential other side. Commercial side has a sort of dip carvedbetweenwastwo properties so water runs south to the ravine behind our buildings. The residence property across the street always flooded, even though thereathe
pipe running under the street from their side to ours. So we fixedproblem by extending our 'dip' to their pipe to accept the waterratherofthan cause backflow.
This worked great for a few years, until those people died, then new
people
trenched the property AND another neighbor's to lead massive amountswater through to our side, where, the dip wasn't adequate, so theyfloodedus. Finally the city came in, rebuilt the section of street and putin areal live drain. Whether it is a private individual, a business, orwe'd
a
govt
directive, one entity cannot make such physical changes that
adversely
impact the existing condition of another entity and not be called to
account
for their actions.

I've talked it over with our neighbor and they are all for it, butjustshare costs. With our job situation and their job situation, therecanaren't any funds right now. If we are blessed in the future, youbetwithoutthat is one of the first things we do! We even thought of putting asmallbridge over the area so we can still visit in spring and falltimessinking knee deep in mud or water. We've had it re-graded threeonIfour dime already to "fix" the problem with absolutely no success.theintoroad bed were not raised above our property level (which used to bebelowour grade,) the water would simply run off across the street andthedecidedlittle creek behind the houses across the street. The townshiptoOn"fix" the grade when they put in sewers. UGH! Of such is life.

I guess that means more rain is on its way here, huh, Donna?gottheflood warnings and our gutters haven't been able to keep up withyearsdeluge.pouringThere is a small "river" between property lines, the low areas are
overflowing and even the walkway to the porch has 1/2 thick waterover it. We haven't gotten to the point of a rain like the 100shouldfloodalreadylevels for the area, but it can't be too far off with the groundatsaturation. And we will be in the Mid 60's today! UGH!!! Itbeplantscolder tomorrow, but not freezing until Monday. We'll see.
I'm not sure what water saturated earth will do to the dormantandAnybodythose that have broken dormancy because of this warm spell.outOnthere know?
