I love the crust too. I always wanted the heel when I was little. My mom always cut it thick & it was heavenly soaked with homemade butter & cinnamon sugar.
Makes my mouth water thinking about it.----- Original Message ----- From: "james singer" <inlandjim1@q.com>

That reminds me, Auralie, that when I was stationed on a lighthouse, one of my mates was a guy from Louisiana, with whom I had zero in common. But when you're in a situation like that, you put a lot of judgments and feeling out of reach and try make the time ease by. Anyway, one day we were BSing about how we were different from the way we had been brought up, and Walt said his mother always made cornbread for dinner, but now that he was on his own he would never eat cornbread again, and all he ate was "light" bread, which is what he called Wonderbread. On Jan 11, 2009, at 2:47 PM, Aplfgcnys@aol.com wrote:When my kids were young I used to make all the bread we ate - all sorts. One day my ten-year-old said plaintively, "Ma, why can't we ever have good bread like the Blackmores? (nextdoor neighbors) It's called Wonder." You can't even make decent French toast with it. When we moved to Indiana when I was 10, we started eating something like Wonderbread - awful stuff. Anytime a family member would visit us from Chicago, they'd be sure to bring some Rosen's. The crust on that was so tough, your teeth had to fight with it - it was THAT GOOD! And delicious seeds. I can't believe it now when I see seedless soft rye bread available in stores.
