Re: This is summer?/Fire

Summer is here too. Very scary fires in South Lake Tahoe area- lots of houses already burned and the fire is in no way under control. Lots of ash falling in the lake (not good!) and evacuations. I am very far from there, but allergies have been horrible today- so wonder if the smoke particulate is adding to that. Hope they get some calm cool weather soon to help them out. This one looks bad.

This weekend, the Friends of the UT Trial Gardens had their annual "Blooms
Day".  I attended on Saturday to get in some of the lectures and on Sunday
to volunteer some hours. 
About the fence, what about things with thorns...cactus or berries?  Even
roses?  The Trial Gardens has a "Rattlesnake plant" that has a nasty thorn
but very interesting color and structure.

I thought summer began this past week, but yesterday the
high was in the low was 69 degrees, and this morning the
temperature was  45 degrees.  It's up to 67 now, but quite
windy and chilly.  Also, it's terribly dry.  It's been a couple
of months now since the 8-inch flood, and not more than an inch total has fallen, mostly in very light showers, since then. Not my idea of summer weather. People 
say how beautiful the weather is, but it just doesn't
look that way to me.
