Yeah- Austin TX (where my mom and sister are) has gotten lots of rain too. Their drought is finally over and the lakes are back to normal again. So that is good- and for my sister it is good as she hasn't had to water the gardens and lawns at my mom's old house.

And we are getting FLOODED with temps in the 80's and 90's. We got 5 inches of rain on Friday night/early Saturday morning. My area has had less than 1/2" in the last 2-1/2 months. It really is getting serious. I feel for the local farmers. Can't wait to see my water bill :( Lynda Zoe 7 - West TN -----Original Message----- From: owner-gardenchat@hort.net [o*@hort.net] On Behalf Of Bonnie Holmes Sent: Monday, June 25, 2007 11:00 AM To: gardenchat@hort.net Subject: RE: [CHAT] This is summer? Summer is here in ETN. It is actually more like August than June...hot and very dry...worst drought in 114 years. Also, thought this interesting...latest deep freeze in April in 114 years. Usually, we use April 15 as the last frost. This weekend, the Friends of the UT Trial Gardens had their annual "Blooms Day". I attended on Saturday to get in some of the lectures and on Sundayto volunteer some hours.About the fence, what about things with thorns...cactus or berries? Even roses? The Trial Gardens has a "Rattlesnake plant" that has a nasty thorn but very interesting color and structure.[Original Message]From: To: Date: 6/24/2007 9:50:32 AMSubject: [CHAT] This is summer? I thought summer began this past week, but yesterday the high was in the low was 69 degrees, and this morning the temperature was 45 degrees. It's up to 67 now, but quite windy and chilly. Also, it's terribly dry. It's been a coupleof months now since the 8-inch flood, and not more than an inch total has fallen, mostly in very light showers, since then. Not my idea of summer weather. Peoplesay how beautiful the weather is, but it just doesn't look that way to me.
