I just looked it up online.. it could be only 117 one way if I go through Ft. Worth Texas.... and it takes 27 hours. That is the cheapest... and if you want a bed it can be up to 400+ more added to the basic. If I chose to go through Chicago it is 143 and takes 23-24 including 2 layovers, one in Kansas City and one in Chicago. I would still need to rent a car so I am not too sure that would be very good. 
I would love to do it once just for fun... and see the country.

It's been many years, but we took the train from Las Vegas to Ft Wayne.



Switched trains in Ogden. With gas $ being what it is, it might be worth
checking into.

We just drove in....11:45 Pm... 2 days of driving. Long long way to drive. I may check on the train for my next drive up. Has anyone ever taken Amtrak?

Not really, but they have an active
group. The office is on the state
fair grounds, I think. Springfield also
has a large garden club, and
is home to the Prairie State Orchid Society.
