How did you keep your chickens from eating the tomatoes? Mine make a mess out of any tomato that's near ripe. And the chickens don't eat the hornworms, either, though Hornets do a pretty good job of control.

I used to let my chickens free-range among my tomatoes for that reason--back when I live where one could have chickens [having tomatoes as not become a problem... yet].
