I don't know the variegated kind, but regular garlic chives are bent on world domination, at least in my garden.

I planted some variegated garlic chives.. to deter the deer! I dont guess I will even try vegetable gardening here. I saw 15 deer in myneighbors yard the other day.. they really need to be thinned. They areeating things that everyone says they never used to eat. I did plant a new area to make a backdrop out of my master bedroomwindow. I was looking into my neighbors side yard where I could see her light come on every morning at 7, like her coffee pot or something. NowI look out at a giant bird of paradise,2 split leaf philodendrons, 2 pygmy palms, variegated flax lilies, 2 windmill palms, 2 variegated gingers and 2 red cordylines. Now I have a wonderful view and I dont have to look at my neighbors kitchen light coming on every morning or her air conditioning unit on the side of the house either. I found some rosemary plants and some autumn ferns to plant somewhere too. I am learning what the deer dont like to eat and hopefully they wont change and start eating them.On Mar 26, 2014, at 9:07 PM, Catharine Carpenter <cathycrc@comcast.net> wrote:I planted a lot of tulips last fall, but I think they drowned over the winter :( !Cathy, west central IL, z5b On Mar 26, 2014, at 6:54 PM, James Singer wrote:For what it's worth, spring seems to have sprung here. Cherries are blooming, daffs and muscari are blooming, and nighttime lows have been above freezing for a week or two. And irises--this berg has an iris festival, so they're planted everywhere along our esplanades--are up (haven't seen any bloom spikesyet, though) but it is never long once we get to this stage.
