Please note these are laboratory grown bacteria-free leeches!
With some injuries & surgeries (reattachment of a severed limb for instance)
arterial blood supply is OK but venous return is too little or too slow.
Blood backs up in the affected part and interferes with healing. A medical
leech is attached, slurps up the excess blood and drops off or is removed
and incinerated. This treatment is used once or several times until normal
circulation is restored.
